BPS Qualifications Consultation
The British Psychological Society
Seymour Research was commissioned by the British Psychological Society to deliver an independent, large-scale consultation to inform strategic decisions about the future of its Stage 2 (level 8 / doctoral-equivalent) Practitioner Psychologist qualifications.
Using a robust mixed-methods design, the consultation combined a large-scale online survey with interviews, focus groups and stakeholder workshops involving trainees, supervisors, employers and wider BPS members. This approach enabled both breadth of insight and deep exploration of lived experience across disciplines and contexts.
The work also incorporated market analysis, financial modelling of alternative delivery options, and a formal equalities impact assessment to examine accessibility, inclusion and sustainability. These strands were integrated to ensure recommendations were evidence-led, financially viable and equality-informed.
The findings informed a set of potential future delivery models for the qualifications for the BPS to consider, providing a clear, evidence-based framework to support sustainable and inclusive training pathways for the profession.
